Camp Summer Haven
The natural world is our focus through play, walks in the woods, moments of awe, learnings about the natural world, earth art, poetry, song, and earth skills.
This is rounded out with crafts, games, meditation, dance, badminton, yoga and cooking enjoyed during the first half of the day.
In the afternoon we expand our playground to beautiful and moderate hikes, artist studios, and service projects that bring smiles.
Free to Be You
The camp is run by Joanie Lamb, the Director of the Center for Inspired Education, who has 30 years experience as a teacher, educational therapist, in-home preschool owner/teacher, and coach for kids and teens with ADHD, ASD and Learning Differences.
She is also a nature lover, fun maker and a mom of 3 teenage boys. The lively, but grounded camp is held at her home in Asheville, NC + 150 conservation acres a few minutes walk from her home + various field trip sites.
The camp has been created to resonate with all types of children and interests, so that we have a variety of campers to make the weave of our camp session more textured and interesting. We also want all youth who want to attend be able to attend, and so we have a sliding scale/bartering options, and for some of our campers a free camp experience.
We create a safe, nurturing, strengths-based container for all of our programs, and camp will be a reflection of our motto, "Free to Be You".

From nature play to arts and crafts, cooking to exploring, every day is packed with exciting activities that'll spark your imagination and ignite your sense of adventure.
Imagine spending your mornings creating masterpieces inspired by the lush landscapes and vibrant colors of our surroundings. With caring staff by your side, you'll unleash your inner artist and bring your wildest ideas to life.
And for those who are more interested in physical play, we have a plethora of over-the-top fun games, obstacle courses and activities to quench your thirst for movement.
But that's not all – get ready to channel your inner chef as we cook up delicious treats using fresh ingredients straight from the earth. From nature-inspired snacks to tasty creations, you'll discover the joy of cooking with nature's bounty.

Camp Honey Hive Day Camp

Welcome to our Special Needs Adult Camp, where laughter, creativity, and friendship are always on the agenda!
Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of East Asheville, our camp offers a haven of joy and adventure for adults with special needs.
Get ready to dive into a world of fun as we embark on a journey filled with cooking delights, dance parties, bingo showdowns, and arts and crafts galore. Whether you're a culinary wizard, a dancing sensation, a bingo aficionado, or an aspiring artist, there's something for everyone to enjoy at our camp.
But the fun doesn't stop there! In the afternoons, we'll set out on exciting field trips to explore the wonders of our community. From strolls through Charles Owen Park to discovering the beauty of the Arboretum, creating magnificent sculptures in an artist's studio, and spreading kindness during our random act of kindness outing, every moment is an opportunity for adventure and discovery.
But the true magic of our camp lies in the bonds we form and the memories we create. With our super nice staff by your side, you'll laugh, learn, and make memories that will last a lifetime. CAMP ASSISTANTS
Camp Summer Haven also offers an opportunity for those age 11-16 to be a Camp Assistant who supports camp staff in activities. Assistants will be able to participate in all the activities and field trips, but pay 50% $175. Interested in becoming a new helper? Email joanielamb@
